The WebAIM Million 2026 report is the largest annual audit of accessibility on the web. The headline number this year is bleak. 56.1% of the top one million home pages have detectable WCAG failures, up from 51% in 2025. Automated tools only catch about 30% of issues. The real number is worse.

The most common failures, in order, are low color contrast (WCAG 1.4.3), missing alternative text on images (WCAG 1.1.1), empty links, missing form labels (WCAG 1.3.1 and 4.1.2), and empty buttons. Every single one of those failures also hurts SEO.
